CIMIC FUNCTIONAL SPECIALISTS COURSE in Slovenia

1. CIMIC FS course

The theoretical Course will be organized by the Civil Defence Agency, supported by the Slovenian Armed Forces and Belgian CIMIC.
The course will cover the aspects of NATO CIMIC. The instructors will be representatives from NATO Nations, Ministry of Defence and national NGOs.

2. Students

This theoretical course and the practical training are open to NATO and PfP military as well as non-military students appointed for participation in peace support operations. The maximum course size for theoretical part is 45 students with 15 seats reserved for NATO and PfP countries. The theoretical course and the practical training will be conducted in English. Registrations will be taken on a first come first served basis. For military is obligatory daily uniform and for civilian participants casual clothes.

3. Theoretical Course and Practical training - Purpose and Learning Objectives

The CIMIC Functional specialists Course consists of Theoretical Course and Practical training.
The underlying theme of the course is the need for military officers and non-commissioned officers, civilian equivalents and Functional Specialists to develop terms for co-operation and co-ordination in NATO–lead Operations, especially to create an understanding of different roles in e.g. the Peace Support Operations. The theoretical part relies heavily on interaction among the participants during the classroom lectures and syndicate works.
The Practical training is open to all students participating in the first week. The purpose of this Practical training is to exercise the different tasks and missions of CIMIC – FS in real conditions, like area assessments, CIMIC field work, negotiation techniques, reporting systems etc.

5. Travel arrangements

The foreign students are expected to arrive at the airport Ljubljana NLT 12 Sep 10.
Foreign student travel arrangements to and from Slovenia are the responsibility of each country. The General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces (GS SAF) and Civil Defence Agency will arrange connecting transportation.
Students should report their travel arrangements for both theoretical and practical part of the CIMIC FS Course participation not later then 6th of September 2010 to Course admin Officer.
The CIMIC-FS Course ends on 24th of September at 12:00.

6. Accommodation

Free accommodation is provided by Civil Defence Agency and General Staff for all participants.

7. Weekend activities

No hosted activities are planned during the weekends.

8. Finance

There is no course fee. The social events during the Course will be host nation responsibility.
Applications of the students from PfP countries should include requirement for host nation financial support. The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia will consider such requests on a case-by-case basis.
