Common Effort 2019

Berlin: 14-18 October 2019

3-year focus on Sahel (G5) area

For the upcoming 3 years the Common Effort Community – coming from government, civil society, the military and private sector – will focus on the Sahel G5 region (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger). The aim is to develop comprehensive, whole-of-society, approaches towards new opportunities and sustainable solutions for development and resolution of conflict.

During Common Effort 2019 we aim to lay the groundwork for this approach with a selection of topics and themes that are pertinent for development and stability of the Sahel G5 region. Together with partners from the Sahel G5, we are looking forward to a fascinating week of deepening our insights and integrating our diverse perspectives. You are only a few steps away from joining Common Effort 2019!

Before registering, please take care of the following information:

This year we offer you the opportunity to create your own flexible program. There are several activities in parallel, so please have a careful look at the program elements. You can find the program when you scroll further down to resources.

If you are interested in learning how to coordinate and integrate multiple perspectives, including civil-military interaction, in concrete operational situations in the context of the Sahel, the Comprehensive Planning strand will suit you best. Participation in this group assumes participation during the whole week (Monday afternoon until Friday afternoon). Apart from expert modules that run at the same time, the Comprehensive Planning strand automatically signs you in for all events during the week and grants you access to the Intermediate High Level Event in the Foreign Affairs Office of Germany in Berlin, which is invitation-only.

The expert modules and panel discussions offer a wide variety of topics related to the Sahel. Simply pick the expert modules during registration that interest you most and fits best to your expertise. Since the Comprehensive Planning Strand and the Expert modules run in parallel, by participating in expert modules, you will not be able to take part in the Comprehensive Planning strand (and vice versa).

Additionally, on Monday evening and Tuesday morning, keynote speeches offer insights into the Sahel from a vast array of different perspectives. Selecting this means that you sign up for all of them.

Last but not least, if you do not have a lot of time, but would still like to learn about the outcomes of Common Effort 2019, the Pitches on a Comprehensive Approach in the Sahel on Thursday morning will offer a great overview of the achievements and discussions of the week.

Please note that electronic registration process is being facilitated by the CIMIC Centre of Excellence registration system. Any questions about registration should be sent only to  contact@common-effort.orgJoin us in building a safer and more secure world!
