Reflections on acaCIMICs Vol. 1: Experimentation
The first acaCIMICs was an exciting two-day event full of energy, innovation, and meaningful exchange. Designed to spark dialogue and collaboration between civil and military academic spheres, the event brought together passionate thinkers, practitioners, and visionaries ready to shape the future of CIMIC.
From the very beginning, the atmosphere was dynamic and welcoming. The opening remarks set the stage for a rich conversation on bridging the gap between academia and military practice. The first panel dove straight into the heart of this challenge, identifying not only the hurdles – such as classification barriers, cultural differences, and resource constraints – but also the mutual strengths that each community brings. Ideas like joint education initiatives, co-designed internships, and continuous exchange showed a clear appetite for growing understanding and building trust.
Day two continued the momentum with insights into NATO’s STO initiatives, new opportunities for collaboration with the CCOE, and further academic sessions showcasing immersive technologies for heritage protection and crisis simulation. Strategic exercises and case studies highlighted not only the value of interdisciplinary analysis but also practical ways forward for enhancing CIMIC’s operational and analytical strength.
The event truly shined thanks to the inspiring contributions of our acaCIMICs speakers and presenters, whose work reflected the depth and diversity of thought in this evolving field.
