Students at HSU usually study one major. International students may visit classes from all offered majors. Our students do not take single classes. Instead, their studies are arranged in modules. Only upon completion of a whole module, credit and a grade will be given.
A module usually consists of several classes. All courses involved in a specific module have to be taken and passed to receive a grade and credit for the whole module.

Some of our modules run over several trimesters with the final exam being held in the last time period. Students who will only be here for parts of the module may not be able to take it as they will not be able to participate in all parts of the module and as such will not be graded/ receive credit.

In some cases, classes can still be attended for a certificate of attendance.

University of Twente

One of the things that make us stand out is our approach to teaching and learning. Our unique Twente Education Model (TOM) makes studying more effective, more future-proof and a lot more fun, too. All Bachelor’s programmes at the University of Twente (UT) work with TOM. What makes this particular way of learning and teaching special?
All our programmes consist of modules. Each module has a theme with all sorts of subjects and learning activities, such as feedback sessions with fellow students or workshops and lectures. The different aspects of a module are related to your study programme and often interconnected. Central to each module is a team project in which, together with your group, you address a real-world problem. This way, you put scientific theory into practice. Challenging and exciting!
