Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Orientation Course

On 11 - 15 July 2022, the CCOE and the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) hosted the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Orientation Course in Brussels. As a member of the ESDC network, the CCOE was honoured to co-host this course by sending Lieutenant Colonel Ciska Both as the Course Director.

The CSDP Orientation Course is a major component of EU training activities in the field of the Common Security and Defence Policy. It aims to develop and promote a better understanding of CSDP as an integral part of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) of the European Union. The course provided the participants with an overview of the civilian and military aspects of European Security and Defence Policy.
23 participants from eleven Member States and ten different organisations/institutions reached the ultimate goal of the course: providing Member States and EU institutions with knowledgeable personnel able to work in CSDP-related fields.
On the last day of the course, the certificates were handed out by Mr Dirk Dubois, Head of the ESDC and Colonel Joachim Miller, Deputy Director of the CCOE.

For the CCOE co-hosting this course was also a good opportunity to enlarge our network within the EU. The CCOE has been not only a member of the ESDC but also the Discipline Leader on EU CIMIC since 2017.
The CCOE’s ambition is to expand its membership in the ESDC by providing other courses in the upcoming years.
