Training & Education: Course offer by CCOE and UN

Following CCOE´s motto CONNECTING PEOPLE, the United Nations Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination (UN-CMCoord) course will be conducted at the CCOE from 21 till 26 October 2018. The course will be residential, with approximately 24 participants comprising of a diverse group of experienced men and women currently working in the Europe region.

The course will prioritize nominations from:

  • national disaster management authorities,
  • military,
  • civil defense and police organizations,
  • Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement,
  • NGOs and
  • UN agencies.

Aim of the Course

This aim of the course is to promote appropriate and effective humanitarian civil-military interactions in humanitarian emergencies through bolstered knowledge and understanding of UN-CMCoord standards and principles and adherence to them. This includes the use of military and civil defense assets to better support the humanitarian community in delivering urgently needed goods and services to affected communities and people-in-need.

By the end of this training event, humanitarian, civilian and military emergency responders will perform their tasks more confidently by:

  1. Assuming responsibilities in support of UN-CMCoord preparedness and response.
  2. Taking an active part in timely decision-making and action in pursuit of effective UN-CMCoord.
  3. Engaging in a dialogue with other civil-military coordination actors to support the activities of the humanitarian community in upholding humanitarian principles and facilitating the provision of the right assistance, to the right people, at the right time, in the most appropriate way.

Registration & Preparation needed

Applicants must complete the UN-CMCoord e-Course at https://www.usipglobalcampus.org/training-overview/uncmcoord/   before applying for this UN-CMCoord course. They can choose to obtain a certificate for either “Chapter 5: Working in Natural Disasters” or “Chapter 6: Working in Complex Emergencies”.
