What a surprise ...

The Italian Senior National Representative (SNR) Major Francesco Di Giampietro, certainly did not expect this surprise. In the presence of the CCOE staff, the Director of the CCOE, Colonel Eckel, promoted him to Lieutenant Colonel. Although the new rank insignia was not placed on his shoulders in front of his chest, there was still the traditional double-sided handclap on the shoulder of the newly promoted officer, sealing the conferral of the new rank. Chief of Staff Colonel Paape also carried out another Dutch tradition: pouring two cans of beer over the newly promoted officer.

It was a great and fun ceremony that Lieutenant Colonel Di Giampietro certainly did enjoy
