Kick-Off Training and Requirements Analysis Meeting for CIMIC Discipline

On 23 - 24 January 2024, a group of well-experienced staff officers with deep expertise on CIMIC reviewed the Training and Education Requirements for the CIMIC Discipline. This workshop was chaired by the SHAPE J9 representative, as the Requirement Authority for the CIMIC Discipline. The input was provided by the Civil-Military Cooperation Centre of Excellence (CCOE) (as the Department Head of CIMIC) and representatives from across NATO Command and Force structure such as  Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFC BS), Joint Force Command Naples (JFC NP), LANDCOM, Maritime Command (MARCOM) Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE).

The review resulted in updates and progress in training requirements for NATO individuals working at NATO HQs and/or preparing for NATO missions.
This event can be viewed as the kick-off of for the Global Programming cycle of the CIMIC Discipline. The next big step in the process will be the Annual Discipline Conference (ADC) from 4-6 June at CCOE in the Hague. Besides other relevant and current topics, the results from the workshop will also be presented during this event.

The ADC for this year can be seen as a unique and special NATO event because it will be a triple co-located ADC of 3 Disciplines: Military Contributions to Peace Support (FINCENT, Finland), Building Integrity (CIDS Norway), and CIMIC (CCOE) - all of them having the mutual interdependencies between the military instrument of power and the civil environment as key interest.

Thanks to all participating representatives for stepping forward and operationalize the readiness and transformation of the alliance!
