Toast to the Queen

Today, we joyfully celebrate the 52nd birthday of Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. Born on May 17, 1971, Máxima Zorreguieta entered the royal family when she married Prince Willem-Alexander on February 2, 2002. When Prince Willem-Alexander ascended to the throne in 2013, Máxima assumed the role of Queen. For over a decade, she has held this esteemed position, earning immense appreciation and love from the Dutch people. Máxima epitomizes the national norms and values of the Dutch, embodying their spirit and representing them with grace.

While the primary connection between the Ministry of Defense and the armed forces is often through the King, Queen Máxima's presence is ever felt. Following her coronation, she inaugurated the Queen Máxima Barracks of the Royal Marechaussee at Schiphol Airport. Additionally, in 2019, she reopened the Central Military Hospital, a vital institution for injured and recovering members of the armed forces. These significant contributions further solidify Queen Máxima's commitment to the welfare and well-being of the Dutch military community. As with Dutch military tradition we raised a toast to her Majesty after a short speech by the chief of staff Col. Henk Paape.
