Geneva: CCOE participating Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week
As a key player within the civil-military environment the CCOE attended the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) in Geneva/ Switzerland.
The HNPW is the annual event of the Leading Edge Programme. This week-long event brings together experts in crisis preparedness and response from a diversity of organizations (including Member States, UN agencies, NGOs, civil protection, the private sector or academia) and countries in a common space where discussions focus on identifying solutions to humanitarian challenges.
HNPW brings together well-established networks, such as INSARAG (International Search and Rescue Advisory Group) or UNDAC (United Nation Disaster Assessment and Coordination), and newly-created networks, some of them as a result of the World Humanitarian Summit, such as the Disabilities in Humanitarian Action or the Connecting Business initiative.
Beside the meeting the CCOE also participated in several sessions and workshops:
- Improving humanitarian outcomes buy sharing environmental data & monitoring risks.
- Combatants and Fighters humanitarian Civil-military Coordination
- Joint Initiative on coordinated assessments.
- What is the promise of open source investigation for conflicts settings?
- How can we strengthen preparedness and humanitarian response in urban contexts?
All sessions last around 1-1½ hour and all military or non-military organizations participated if they wanted to. The outcome was to get a better understanding on how the non-military organizations works, cooperation between non-military organizations, cooperations between NATO and non-military organization, how can CCOE support the cooperation between relevant stakeholders and of course networking with relevant partners as EU, UN-OCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination Humanitarian Affairs), NATO and for example with Save the children.
