"iCKLC 2023" ends successfully
During 04-07 September 2023 SHAPE J9 and the multinational-sponsored and NATO-accredited CIVIL MILITARY COOPERATION (CIMIC) Centre of Excellence (CCOE) hosted the INTEGRATED CIMIC KEY LEADER CONFERENCE AND CIMIC COMMUNITY OF INTEREST WORKSHOP (iCKLC) 2023 at the Majoor Jan Linzel Complex in The Hague.
More than 130 participants from 27 countries across the globe, representing NATO, allied nations and a wide range of civilian organisations and the academicworld, were welcomed by the Mayor of the city of The Hague, Mr Jan van Zanen, and had the chance to listen to a wide range of high ranking and high qualified panellists including NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative, Ms Irene Fellin, SHAPE DCOS Partnering development, Rear Admiral Gunnstein Bruåsdal, CG 353 Civil Affairs Command, Brigadier General Dean P. Thompson, and NLD Deputy Chief Logistics, Brigadier General Henny Bouman.
After setting the framework with Human Security and the status of the capability development of CIMIC Analysis and Assessment, all participants were encouraged to contribute to the implications of the conflict in Ukraine for NATO CIMIC and how to improve the interoperability within the civil-military community. Briefings, syndicate work and lively discussions amongst the variety of the community drove the event and benefitted the way ahead. The first results were reflected at the end of the conference, and further developments will be covered in a post-conference report.
‘’This CoE provides experts and key contributions on all NATO aspects of Civil-Military Cooperation, Civil-Military Interaction (CMI) and Civil Factor Integration (CFI) across the NATO Command Structure’’ said the Director of the CCOE, Colonel Andreas Eckel (DEU A). ‘’With the war in Ukraine, the importance of CIMIC is even more vital within NATO’s approach to planning and its global security effects”.
The three days also offered an opportunity to maintain and expand the participants’ network. The two hosts and the participants rated the event as a success.
