New York City: CCOE participating in AMSG meeting
Within the framework of the Allied Maritime Shipping Group a representative from CCOE Lessons Learned & Analysis Branch participated in a meeting with the American Steamship Owners Mutual Protection and Indemnity Association, Inc. (The American Club) on 24th January 2018 in New York City.
The Allied Maritime Shipping Group (AMSG) is a forum for NCAGS (Naval Co-operation and guidance for shipping) and AWNIS (Allied Worldwide Navigation and Information System) subject matter experts to discuss and coordinate NCAGS and AWNIS related operational issues and to review existing plans, policies and doctrines in light of recent operations and exercises as well as improving extant procedures (https://www.shipping.nato.int/nsc.aspx).

What is NCAGS? NCAGS provides support to merchant shipping through cooperation, advice and guidance. It assits the Maritime Commander in achieving his mission and enhances the safety of merchant ships. NCAGS shall be understood as a link between military and civilian shipping. The organization’s objective is to ensure the freedom and safety of maritime traffic as a basis for the economic stability of the nations.
What is AWNIS? AWNIS ensures the compilation, coordination and timely publication of information on nautical safety and safety of life at sea for military commanders as well as for civilian shipping in an area of operations. Due to the use of AWNIS, nautical restrictions can be kept to a minimum in an area of operations (freedom of navigation).
The American Steamship Owners Mutual Protection and Indemnity Association, Inc. (The American Club) was established in New York in 1917. It is the only mutual Protection and Indemnity Club domiciled in the United States – indeed, in the entire Americas. The Club is a member of the International Group of P&I Clubs, a collective of thirteen mutuals which together provide Protection and Indemnity insurance for some 90% of all world shipping.
